Hm.. too bad this isn’t based on the Coalgirls BD release (or even better, TenB’s very recent BD release which contains a few fixes and arguably has the better encode), but it’s surely because this re-encode is one of the older ones.

The BD releases have better quality, subbed OP/EDs and chapters which are useful for skipping said OP/EDs (watching them 148 times probably isn’t worth it).
Other than that, the subs should be exactly the same, so contrary to what I said, it isn’t “too bad”.

Since the missing parts bugged me, I tried muxing the newer subs & chapters to this release, but this isn’t enough, because the timings differ quite a lot, so patching is too much manual labor with too little payoff.

So the only sane choices are to buy the BD, get your 18GB re-encode with a few drawbacks or get TenB’s 62GB encode with the drawback, that it takes up 62GB.

Btw, which subs did you use for the movies? The Last Mission is surely Hatsuyuki, because it’s pretty much the only choice, but what about Phantom Rouge? There’s Shindou and Hatsuyuki subs, and Shindou seems to be the more prominent choice.

    • Phantom Rouge uses S-A subs.
We will be doing the BD eventually…..but no promises!

Ah yes, TenB does use H.265 (10-bit even), that’s why it’s still so relatively small, despite being 1080p – but it also means, that decoding might be bothersome on some platforms.

Hopefully H.265 will take over H.264 soon enough – when it actually can, that is (performance might be an issue).
It took long enough for anime encodes to adopt 10-bit H.264 as a standard, even with ~20% better coding efficiency and less banding issues over 8-bit, because the tool support was never that great – and it still isn’t – 10-bit is a second-class citizen.
Let’s hope that doubling the coding efficiency (*) is enough incentive for a change.

From TenB’s description of “a few fixes”, I’d guess it’s something small like grammatical errors or typos – it’s easy for them to sneak into a 148 episodes long series.

I’d say: Don’t bother with a BD version, because the script doesn’t improve and the quality probably isn’t worth the time investment. On top of that, I’m probably the only one, who gets bothered by something like missing chapters.

(*) H.265 has about twice the coding efficiency of H.264, meaning: you only need about 50% of the bitrate to reach the same objective quality – for subjective quality it’s even better. It’s absurd how good it is, really!

Hi guys, I have a bit of a problem downloading ep 130. I always get a “Temporary error, retrying” from Mega. I’ve been trying to DL this episode for 3 days now and Mega would always have that error. Hope you can fix it, thank you.
